Optical Encoder System

An optical encoder system is a device used for precise measurement of position or speed, and it is widely applied in fields such as industrial automation, machine tools, and semiconductor manufacturing. It detects displacement or position changes by reading precise optical patterns on a scale or disc. The system consists of a readhead and a scale or disc, where the light source and sensor within the readhead detect changes in light waveform from the scale or disc and convert them into electrical signals. The scale typically made of stainless steel or nickel with optical patterns etched on it, providing accurate position information. Ultimately, the signal processing unit converts these electrical signals into precise displacement data. Due to its high resolution and accurate feedback capabilities, optical encoder systems excel in fields that require precise motion control.

The SA100 series is a high-precision absolute scale, specifically designed to match optical scanning absolute readheads, suitable for precise displacement measurement applications. Its standout feature is the robax glass substrate, which boasts an ultra-low thermal expansion coefficient of nearly 0 ppm/°C, ensuring exceptional measurement accuracy even in fluctuating temperature environments, with a precision of up to ±5 μm/m. The stainless steel version of the scale offers a thermal expansion coefficient of 11 ppm/°C, providing good durability and corrosion resistance.

The SA100 is available in both robax glass and stainless steel substrate materials to meet diverse environmental needs, with the robax glass being particularly suitable for applications that are highly sensitive to temperature variations. The grating period is 100 µm, with lengths of up to 1520 mm (Robax glass) and 6000 mm (Stainless steel).
